How does stone floor crystallization work?
Stone floor crystallization is a chemical-mechanical process for the sustainable surface treatment of calcareous natural stones. Unlike floor sealing, in which a protective layer is applied to the floor, crystallization transforms the stone surface itself—a protective surface change takes place.
How exactly does the crystallization process work? Calcareous natural stones naturally contain calcium carbonate. During crystallization, a crystallization solution (or powder) is applied to the floor and worked into it using a single-disc machine. The heat generated by friction, combined with the mild acid, triggers a chemical reaction: The solution reacts with the calcium carbonate in the stone and converts it into extremely hard calcium fluoride on the stone’s surface. This creates tiny, high-gloss microcrystals on the surface that protect the stone and produce a deep, mirror-like shine.

For which types of natural stone floors is the crystallization process suitable?
The floor crystallization process is suitable exclusively for calcareous natural and artificial stones such as marble, limestone, travertine, terrazzo, or agglomerated marble. Unfortunately, crystallization does not work on granite or quartz-containing stones. The reason is that granite, gneiss, quartzite, and slate lack the necessary calcium content for the chemical reaction.
A typical application for natural stone crystallization is the restoration and gloss enhancement of dulled indoor marble and limestone floors. Even previously polished, finely ground natural stone floors that have lost their luster provide the perfect foundation for a new mirror-like shine!
